How To Apply for KUCCPS 2026 Inter-University Transfer: Eligibility | Application Process | Transfer Fee

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially released the 2026 student placement results, paving the way for the opening of the inter-university and inter-institution transfer window.
Students who are not satisfied with the institutions or programmes they have been placed in will have an opportunity to apply for a transfer once the KUCCPS transfer portal is opened.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced that the 2026 KUCCPS transfer window will remain open for one month, up from the previous two-week period.
The extension gives students more time to evaluate their placement and submit transfer applications where necessary.
The transfer process allows students to change their institution, programme or both, provided they meet the required academic qualifications and the receiving institution has available vacancies.
Who Qualifies for the KUCCPS Inter-University Transfer?
Not every student placed through KUCCPS automatically qualifies for a transfer. Applicants must satisfy several requirements before their requests can be approved.
To qualify, a student must:
¶Have been successfully placed by KUCCPS in a university, TVET institution or another higher learning institution.
¶Meet the minimum entry requirements, subject qualifications and cut-off points for the programme they wish to transfer to.
¶Apply for only one institution and one programme at a time during the transfer period.
¶Provide a valid reason for requesting the transfer.
¶Submit supporting documents where required to justify the request.
¶Students should also note that highly competitive programmes, particularly medicine and other health-related courses, often have very limited vacancies, reducing the chances of a successful transfer.
How to Apply for a KUCCPS Transfer
The entire transfer process is completed online through the KUCCPS Student Portal.
Follow these steps:
1. Log in to the KUCCPS Student Portal using your KCSE Index Number, KCSE examination year and the required login credentials.
2. Navigate to the Transfer Application section.
3. Select your preferred institution and programme.
4. Confirm that you meet all the programme requirements before submitting your application.
5. Pay the KSh 1,000 transfer processing fee through the KUCCPS portal via eCitizen.
6. Submit your application for processing.
The application will only be processed after the transfer fee has been paid successfully.
How KUCCPS Processes Transfer Applications
After submission, your application undergoes several approval stages.
First, the institution you wish to join confirms whether it has available capacity. The institution where you were initially placed then approves your release before KUCCPS conducts the final review and either approves or rejects the transfer request.
Transfer Deadline and Processing Time
Following the directive by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, the 2026 KUCCPS transfer window will remain open for one month, giving students ample time to submit their requests.
Transfer applications are typically processed within one day to two weeks, depending on the programme applied for, the institutions involved and the speed of the approval process.
Students can monitor the status of their applications directly through the KUCCPS Student Portal, as KUCCPS does not publish
