HELB Opens Applications for Undergraduate Subsequent Loans | How To Apply

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has opened applications for subsequent undergraduate loans, paving the way for thousands of continuing university students to access financial support for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The application window is open to students seeking their second, third, or fourth loan, depending on the duration of their studies.
More than 400,000 students in public and private universities are expected to benefit from the loans and scholarships, supported by a record KSh56.3 billion allocation in the national budget.
Eligible applicants can submit their applications through the HELB Mobile App or by dialling *642#.
How to Apply via USSD *642#
1. Applicants should dial *642# on their registered phone, then register or log in using their name, ID number, and birth date.
2. Once logged in, users must then create and confirm a secure four-digit PIN to protect their personal loan application account.
3. Applicants then select the Subsequent Application option, followed by the specific category, such as undergraduate or TVET loan and scholarship.
4. After reading and accepting the terms, applicants confirm their details, submit, and receive a confirmation SMS with a serial number.
