Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has confirmed that 11 contractors are actively working on the Isiolo-Mandera road, with some sections already 40-50% tarmacked. The project, expected to be completed in two and a half years, has faced criticism, but Kindiki insists it will be a key government achievement ahead of the 2027 elections.

He dismissed critics mocking the project, stating, “In 2027, we’ll drive from Mandera to Isiolo—that’s how you open up a region.”

Kindiki also cautioned Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries against inviting President William Ruto to launch projects that aren’t fully funded or completed, emphasizing the need to shield him from embarrassment. His remarks follow Ruto’s recent warning to contractors delaying government projects.
