It was an emotional evening at the Lodwar Vocational Training Centre as 146 casual employees of the Turkana County Government finally saw their years of voluntary service recognized with confirmation into permanent and pensionable (PNP) terms of service.

For many, the moment was overwhelming. Some had served the county for more than two decades without formal employment, driven only by resilience, dedication, and hope that one day their sacrifice would be rewarded. Women were moved to tears as they received appointment letters—symbols of security, dignity, and acknowledgment of their long and often silent struggle.

Governor Dr. Jeremiah Lomorukai, who presided over the ceremony, described the confirmation as a milestone in honoring unsung heroes of devolution. “These men and women are the heartbeat of service delivery in Turkana. Their patience, sacrifice, and discipline deserve more than recognition—they deserve celebration,” he said.

The Chairperson of the County Public Service Board, Mr. Peter Ekunyuk, praised the commitment of the support staff, calling them the backbone of county service. He urged the newly confirmed employees to embrace their new roles with integrity and professionalism, aligning their service with the governor’s development agenda and the broader vision of a responsive public service.

For the beneficiaries, many of whom began as volunteers when devolution was first rolled out, the day marked the end of years of uncertainty. Their confirmation not only secures their livelihoods but also restores their dignity, setting a new chapter of hope for their families and the community at large.
