Political Intolerance In Turkana Ahead Of General Elections Threat to Stability, Development
The rate at which spate of criminal activities are happening in Turkana ahead of GE 2027 is quite alarming. It actually sends warning alerts of what would happen during general elections.
That said, Turkana politicians have taken the issue upon themselves and they have owned it.The practice do not resonate well with the minds of many voters.That rival political situation currently witnessed in Turkana from elected leaders is worrying. Given the fact that people who are at the center of political wrangles are mainly the jobless youths.They blindly engage in political battlefields without second thought; later find themselves at the wrong side of the law.The current crop of youthful leadership both at the national and county levels are cited to engage in such criminal activities.
Leadership isn’t rivalry of resources but trademark of humility and wisdom—being able to understand the needs and feelings of the people governed. Use of desperate youths to satisfy political ambition wouldn’t be entertained in the 21st century. Human life is sacred and sanctified; it’s only God Who has the power to deprive humans. No human has the mandate to take life of the other without apparent reason.
In the swearing ceremony, Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai Napotikan took it head on to highlight concerns regarding the spate of criminal activities perpetuated by people who are well known to security agents; strongly condemning intentional blanketing of the perpetrators of such hideous criminals acts.Turkana leadership is not life and death affair; that specific individuals are hellbent to misuse power to disrupt peaceful coexistence in Turkana.This act must be condemned in the strongest terms possible.
No one is above the law, even President William Ruto. However, an average legislator (mere representer) has no moral authority to misuse NPR and personal bodyguards assigned to settle political scores with fellow competitors; basically terrorizing and maiming the innocent populace for political relevance and expedience.
This political intolerance weaponized in Turkana county ahead of GE 2027 must stop now. Turkana county is not “SOBIBOR”.
