A concerned stakeholder has written to Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, expressing deep unease over the continued involvement of the current Board of Commissioners in recruitment processes, despite their term nearing its end next month.
The stakeholder stated that, according to standard human resource practices and principles of good governance, individuals whose terms are coming to an end should either proceed on terminal leave or refrain from participating in sensitive duties such as hiring.
He warned that the board’s continued engagement in recruitment could give rise to perceptions of favoritism, including the possibility of appointing friends or relatives as a “farewell gesture.“

With the highest respect and concern, I write to bring to your attention a matter that is causing growing unease among stakeholders.
It is disconcerting that the current Board of Commissioners—whose term is due to expire next month—continues to actively engage in recruitment processes. In line with standard human resource practices and principles of good governance, it is expected that individuals approaching the end of their term either proceed on terminal leave or step back from substantive responsibilities, especially those involving hiring. This safeguard is in place to prevent any real or perceived favoritism, such as the appointment of friends or relatives as parting favors.
Unfortunately, there is mounting concern that this outgoing board is not upholding the standards of integrity and accountability expected during this transition. Their continued involvement in recruitment appears irregular and risks further eroding public confidence. Compared to previous boards, this one has struggled to earn trust—and their persistence in overseeing sensitive processes only amplifies the mistrust.
In light of this, we respectfully call on your urgent intervention to halt all ongoing and planned recruitment activities under the current board’s oversight. It would be prudent to restrict their role to routine administrative duties until the formal conclusion of their term. Taking this step will go a long way in preserving institutional integrity and restoring public trust in leadership.
