Organisations, employers, universities, government agencies and other institutions can now verify Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificates online through the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) E-Certificate platform.
The digital verification system allows institutions to instantly authenticate KCSE certificates issued between 1989 and 2024, helping curb certificate fraud while speeding up recruitment, admissions and other verification processes. According to KNEC, the platform enables organisations to verify individual or bulk certificates and receive official verification reports within minutes.
To access the service, organisations must first register as a verifier on the KNEC E-Certificate platform. After providing the required details and confirming their email through a one-time password (OTP), the account undergoes approval by KNEC administrators before verification services can be accessed.
Verification Procedure

2. Select Sign Up and choose Verifier Organisation.
3. Enter the required organisation details and verify the email address using the OTP sent by KNEC.
4. Await approval from KNEC administrators.
5. Once approved, log in to the Verifier Dashboard.
6. Click New Verification Request.
7. Enter the candidate’s details, including:
-Index Number
-Examination Type (KCSE)
-Examination Year (1989–2024)
-Full Name as it appears on the certificate
8. Upload the candidate’s e-certificate in PDF format.
9. Confirm the delivery email address and state the reason for verification, such as employment, admission or immigration.
10. Accept the consent declaration and proceed to payment.
11. Payment can be made through wallet credits or via eCitizen using M-Pesa and other supported payment channels.
12. Upon completion, download the verification report. Organisations receive both consolidated and individual candidate reports, indicating whether a certificate is genuine or requires further reference to KNEC.
KNEC says the platform is part of its broader digital transformation agenda aimed at enhancing security, transparency and trust in academic credentials. The system also enables bulk verification, making it particularly useful for employers and institutions handling large numbers of applications.
Institutions seeking to verify KCSE certificates are encouraged to register and take advantage of the new service, which significantly reduces the time previously required for manual verification.
