Turkana Central Member of Parliament Hon. Emathe Namuar has strongly condemned the physical altercation between Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai and Loima MP Protus Akujah that occurred at Lodwar Airstrip on Sunday morning, terming it a shameful display of ego and poor leadership.

In a strongly worded statement, Namuar criticized the leaders involved, saying their actions exposed “weakness, not strength,” and painted a grim picture of the state of leadership in Turkana County.“When leaders fight – whether with fists or words – they expose weakness, not strength. Power without restraint is chaos,” said Namuar.

He added that the scuffle was “the opening of a Pandora’s box; revealing the rot festering within the whole of Turkana County’s leadership,” lamenting that the confrontation reflected arrogance, insecurity, and a lack of self-control.

Citing leadership thinker John Maxwell, the MP reminded fellow leaders that, “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way,” emphasizing that the incident displayed none of these virtues.

Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Namuar said, “The measure of a leader is how he handles conflict,” urging leaders to embrace restraint and maturity in dealing with disagreements.

Drawing from African proverbs, the legislator noted that when leaders engage in public spats, it is the citizens who suffer most.

“When two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers. In this case, the grass is the people of Turkana – tired, watching, and deserving better,” he stated.

Namuar called on leaders across Turkana to rise above personal egos and focus on serving the people who elected them, insisting that “Turkana needs leaders who can lead with calm, not chaos.”

The Sunday morning confrontation between Governor Lomorukai and MP Akujah reportedly disrupted operations at Lodwar Airstrip and sparked public outrage, with many residents expressing disappointment over the incident.
