KMTC, UNHCR & Turkana County Govt Announce Scholarship for Nursing Diploma Students (Turkana & Refugees) | 2025/2026 Intake| How To Apply | Requirements | Deadline

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the County Government of Turkana, has unveiled a fully sponsored training opportunity for aspiring nurses from Turkana County and the refugee community in Kakuma and Kalobeyei.

The program, set to begin in September 2025, targets qualified candidates seeking to upgrade their skills through a Diploma in Community Health Nursing (Distance Learning) at KMTC Lodwar Campus. Successful applicants will receive full tuition sponsorship from UNHCR.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:

1. Hold a Certificate in Community Health Nursing with at least two years of work experience.
2. Be registered by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
3. Come from Turkana County or the Kakuma/Kalobeyei refugee camps.
4. Provide a letter of introduction from an area Chief (for locals) or a UNHCR/managerial official (for refugees).
5. Submit a short essay (not more than 200 words) explaining their motivation to join the program.

Applications must be submitted online via the KMTC portal on or before 9th October 2025.

How to Apply
Prospective candidates are required to create an account at admissions.kmtc.ac.ke, fill in their biodata, and apply under the UNHCR Scholarship option. Applicants from refugee camps should select FOREIGN under nationality while filling in their details.

Speaking during the announcement, KMTC Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kelly Oluoch emphasized that the initiative is designed to empower both the host and refugee communities with professional healthcare skills to meet growing health service needs in Turkana and beyond.

This landmark collaboration not only builds the capacity of health professionals but also opens doors for marginalized communities to pursue life-changing opportunities in healthcare.
