Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has finally visited Todonyang’ 40 days after the brutal massacre that left several people dead and many others missing. The visit comes amid growing calls for justice and lasting peace in the volatile region, which has long suffered from conflicts fueled by cattle rustling and border disputes.

The governor’s delayed visit had sparked criticism, with many residents and political observers questioning his commitment to addressing the security crisis in the area. Earlier reports indicated that Turkana North MP Hon. Ekwom Nabuin had been at the forefront of response efforts, mobilizing both government institutions and humanitarian organizations to aid affected families and search for missing persons.

During his visit, Governor Lomorukai met with grieving families, local leaders, and security officials to assess the situation on the ground. He assured residents that his administration, in collaboration with the national government, is committed to restoring security and preventing further bloodshed.

However, concerns persist among residents, who feel that the government’s response has been too slow. Many families have yet to locate their missing loved ones, and the scars of the attack remain fresh. Some community members also expressed frustration over the governor’s initial absence in the aftermath of the massacre.

Political pundits suggest that Lomorukai’s delayed visit was due to his ongoing political conflict with former county speaker Christopher Nakuleu. They argue that his recent return to Todonyang’ coincides with his successful efforts to reinstate the county speaker position to Turkana North, now held by Mr. Charles Lokiyoto.

Meanwhile, Turkana North MP Ekwom Nabuin continues to be praised for his proactive approach in responding to the tragedy. Since the attack, Nabuin has been on the ground, working tirelessly with both government agencies and humanitarian organizations to assist affected families. His visible presence has earned him the trust of many residents, who feel that his leadership in times of crisis has been more effective than that of other county officials.

Leaders from the region have urged the government to prioritize long-term solutions, including economic empowerment programs to address the root causes of conflict. As the region mourns, there is hope that Lomorukai’s visit will mark the beginning of a serious commitment to peace, security, and justice for the victims of the Todonyang’ Massacre.
