The political landscape in Turkana is fast heating up, and at the heart of it lies an escalating rivalry between Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai and Turkana Central MP Joseph Namuar. What began as subtle jabs has now spilled into open confrontations, with both leaders trading verbal blows in recent public events.
At stake is not just political supremacy but also the control of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) machinery in Turkana. Namuar, one of UDA’s earliest loyalists in the region, is keen on safeguarding his space within the ruling party. For Lomorukai, who only recently crossed from Raila Odinga’s ODM Party, it is about stamping authority and proving he can command both the grassroots and the party structures.
The duel between the two men is also symbolic. For Namuar, it is about survival — defending his parliamentary seat and his long-term relevance in UDA. For Lomorukai, it is about expansion — stretching his influence beyond the governor’s seat and reshaping Turkana’s political future.
What remains unclear is who will blink first. Will Namuar bow to the Governor’s growing influence, or will Lomorukai’s perceived outsider status in UDA limit his ability to consolidate power?
