Refugee Influx and Integration Challenges – Peter Lolem

The challenge does not lie in the Shirika Plan itself but in the growing number of refugees arriving daily in Kakuma, particularly those fleeing the crisis in South Sudan. This influx has been rising yearly, with an expected surge. Additionally, refugees from Uganda, Congo, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and Pakistan are also arriving in significant numbers.
With ongoing resource shortages and environmental challenges, access to essential services is already strained, making integration even more difficult as the population grows. How does the Shirika Plan address these issues? And why is Kenya, as an East African Community (EAC) member, bearing this burden alone instead of working collaboratively with other EAC states?
Looking ahead, the Dinka community may seek recognition as the 48th tribe, similar to the Nubians in Kibra.
