Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has urged his political rivals in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to remain in the party and face him in the nominations instead of defecting to smaller parties.
Speaking during a burial in Kalokol, Lomorukai said the nominations would be the true test of political strength, expressing confidence that he would secure the party ticket.
“I urge my opponents not to run away from UDA. Let us meet at the ballot during the nominations. I am certain I will clinch the ticket,” he told mourners.
The governor further claimed that once he wins, he will be kind enough to offer jobs to those he defeats in the nominations, stressing that unity after the primaries will strengthen the party.
Lomorukai, however, is still regarded as a “party visitor” by many within UDA, having only recently ditched Raila Odinga’s ODM Party to join the ruling outfit.
His remarks come amid speculation of divisions within UDA in Turkana, with reports suggesting that some aspirants are weighing options of shifting to fringe parties ahead of the next polls.
