Turkana North MP Ekwom Nabuin has intensified efforts to promote peace along the Kenya–Ethiopia border, convening a high-level meeting in Kibish Sub-County that brought together administrators, security officials, and community leaders from both sides.

The meeting, which focused on strengthening relations between Kibish Sub-County and Nyangatom Woreda in Ethiopia’s South Omo Zone, aimed to address the root causes of recurring cross-border conflicts.

Nabuin said that stakeholders agreed on a coordinated approach that will see administrators, peace actors, and community elders from both countries work closely to foster lasting peace and stability in the region.

The meeting aims to improve relations and find common ground to address the root causes of conflict. We’ve agreed that administrators, peace actors, and community elders from both sides will work closely. He stated.

The Ethiopian delegation was led by Nyang’atom Woreda Chief Administrator Loturusi Kare, while the South Sudan delegation was represented by Hon. George Echom, highlighting the broader regional commitment to peace and security in the borderlands.

The initiative comes amid ongoing efforts to curb insecurity, livestock raids, and tensions that have historically affected communities living along the volatile borders. Leaders expressed optimism that sustained dialogue and collaboration will help build trust and prevent future conflicts.
