The County Government of Turkana has disbursed KSh 51 million in stipends to over 2,600 Community Health Promoters (CHPs) across the county, in a move aimed at strengthening primary healthcare services.

According to official statement from the Department of Health and Sanitation Services, dated 30th, March, 2026, the funds cover five months’ stipends, including arrears for CHPs who were previously left out in earlier disbursements. This brings the total amount paid to CHPs in the current financial year to over KSh 100 million, accounting for a full twelve-month period.

County Executive Committee Member for Health, Dr. Esekon Joseph Epem, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing community health services, urging CHPs to continue conducting household visits and promoting good health practices within communities.

He noted that outstanding arrears for an additional four months will be addressed through an upcoming supplementary budget.
To improve coordination, the Department also announced plans to introduce a toll-free communication line to enable direct engagement between CHPs and health officials. In the meantime, CHPs have been advised to channel concerns through Sub-County focal persons for prompt resolution.

The County Government expressed appreciation to Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai for his continued support towards improving the welfare of Community Health Promoters, who play a critical role in delivering grassroots healthcare services across Turkana.
