Turkana South MP Ariko Namoit Breaks Silence on Working Relationship With Governor Lomorukai

Turkana South MP Hon. Dr. John Ariko Namoit has publicly dismissed any prospect of cooperating with Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, releasing a strong statement faulting the county administration and cautioning national leaders against backing what he terms a failing government.
Governor Lomorukai made the remarks on Wednesday during the commemoration of World Disabilities Day at Moi Gardens in Lodwar, where he assured residents that he had “formally initiated the process” of working closely with the Turkana South MP.
In his response, Ariko stressed that no such discussions had taken place, calling the alleged cooperation “misleading and unfounded.” noting that despite earlier support extended to Governor Lomorukai during personal and legal challenges, the Governor had ‘compounded the suffering of the people’ and demonstrated “disregard for the gravity of their situation.”
Ariko highlighted what he termed his proven record in public service, citing years of experience in both county and national leadership. He maintained that his track record of “capable, compassionate, and transparent leadership” contrasts sharply with what he views as widespread mismanagement under the current county administration.
Warning to President Ruto and UDA Leadership
The legislator expressed concern over the growing political closeness between Governor Lomorukai and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), cautioning President William Ruto and party officials to scrutinize the implications of such an association.
“I note the emerging political relationship between Governor Lomorukai and the UDA party. I urge Dr. William Ruto and the UDA leadership to consider this a matter of caution…” he stated.
He argued that supporting the Governor’s leadership would be “an endorsement of continued suffering” for Turkana residents and urged UDA to consider the ethical and moral weight of political decisions in the county.
“… aligning with an administration accused of profound failures would be to endorse the continued suffering of the Turkana people. Moral and ethical responsibility cannot be overlooked. The incompetence of the current County government has brought Turkana to its knees” he added.
Allegations of Legal and Financial Misconduct
Ariko reiterated allegations surrounding the Governor’s unresolved case regarding alleged academic credential forgery. He also referenced ongoing investigations by oversight agencies, saying the perception of selective justice undermines public trust.
“The Governor faces a serious, unresolved criminal case regarding alleged forged academic papers. The perception that he enjoys impunity while ordinary citizens face the full force of the law undermines public faith in justice. Furthermore, multiple other investigations by the EACC and DPP remain pending.” he stated.
He further accused the county government of large-scale financial mismanagement, pointing to scandals in relief food procurement and insurance services. He claimed that billions of shillings had been lost and that the consequences of corruption had directly affected vulnerable households.
“Billions of public funds have been lost in scandals, including the purchase of relief food and insurance services. This corruption has directly cost hundreds of lives, a failure of the most basic duty of care.”
“These failures are not isolated incidents but part of a systemic pattern,” he said.
Dismisses UDA’s By-Election Wins as Not Reflective of 2027
Ariko downplayed the significance of recent by-election victories by UDA candidates in Turkana, claiming the wins were marred by widespread voter bribery in communities suffering from acute water shortages and inadequate health services.
“Do not be misled: recent by-election victories for UDA candidates do not translate to viability for Governor Lomorukai in 2027. These victories are reportedly tainted by massive voter bribery, exploiting a desperate populace who lack water and healthcare.” he said.
He argued that such tactics would not translate into sustainable support for Governor Lomorukai in the 2027 General Election.
Ariko declared that he would not compromise his integrity or align with any political project he believes perpetuates public suffering. He affirmed his commitment to ODM values and stated that he would rather return to academia at Turkana University than support a leadership style he considers unethical.
“I remain the most formidable competitor to Governor Lomorukai,” he said, expressing confidence in his track record and commitment to reform.
Calls for Unity Under the Wantam Movement
Ariko urged residents and leaders advocating for change to rally behind the Wantam movement—his broader political platform—arguing that it represents a path toward restoring accountability, dignity, and effective service delivery in Turkana County.
“I call upon all who seek change to unite behind a movement dedicated to real outcomes—the Wantam movement. Together, we can save our county from its current shame and restore dignity, accountability, and effective service.” he said.
