Abdi Accuses Turkana Community of Defying Gov’t Order to Surrender Illegal Firearms

Rift Valley Regional Police Commissioner Abdi Hassan has issued a stern warning to the Turkana community, accusing them of defying government orders to surrender illegal firearms.

Speaking on Thursday, Hassan said the community had been given limited time to comply with the directive, but many had failed to return the weapons as required. He cautioned that the government will not hesitate to take tough action if the arms are not surrendered within the deadline.

“The time allocated is very short, and if these weapons are not returned, the government will take serious measures against those who fail to comply,” he warned.

The call to return illegal firearms comes amid ongoing security operations in the region, as authorities work to curb banditry and restore peace along the Rift Valley corridors.
