The much-anticipated Cross-Border Peace Football Tournament, organized by the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) Turkana Branch with support from the West Pokot and Elgeiyo-Marakwet branches, has been postponed until further notice due to escalating insecurity in Kainuk.
The event, which was scheduled for 27th September 2025 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., was expected to bring together communities under the theme: “Kicking for Peace, Unity, and Resilience.”
KRCS Turkana Branch, which is marking 60 years of service to humanity, expressed regret over the postponement, noting that the safety of participants and residents remains the top priority.
The tournament was set to be held in Kainuk, a region that has recently witnessed increased bandit attacks, prompting heightened calls for urgent security intervention.
