Tension has gripped Kainuk once more after armed bandits suspected to be from neighboring West Pokot County killed two people, including a young man and a National Police Reservist (NPR). The NPR’s firearm was reportedly stolen by the attackers.

The latest incident has sparked outrage among residents, who accuse security agencies of laxity despite their heavy presence in the area. Locals now threaten to hold protests if the government fails to act decisively.

Former councillor Ali Lobeker echoed the frustration, questioning why security forces including police, AP, ASTU, KWS, and even KDF — remain stationed at roadblocks instead of protecting civilians.

Residents are now directly calling out Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, demanding urgent intervention.

Shida ni nini Murkomen?” asked Mary Ngilimo, a local resident.

The killings add to a series of violent attacks that have rocked the Kainuk border area, leaving communities living in fear and deepening mistrust in the government’s ability to restore lasting peace.
