Nimrod Ekamais Lomorukai, son of Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, appeared before Principal Magistrate Kesses Cherono in Eldoret, where he testified that supporters of his father’s political rivals were behind an assault against him on April 29, 2024, near Lodwar town.
Nimrod, a professional footballer, told the court that his father had previously warned him about rising political tensions in the region and the hostility posed by some of his rivals.
Turkana South MP Ariko Namoit, along with seven others, is facing assault charges in connection with the attack. The co-accused include Peter Lokutuni, David Nangiro, Jemostar Akooyen, Bornfestus Nabuin, Joseph Ekitela, Sammy Ekitela alias When Zonko, and James Abel.
According to Nimrod’s testimony, he was at Cherina’s Hotel with friends when he was suddenly slapped by an individual he identified as Peter Etung. Soon after, several others allegedly joined in the attack.
“On that day, I was at Cherina’s Hotel with friends and had called my elder brother Lavish to pick me up. While waiting in the parking yard, I was slapped by someone I recognized as Peter Etung. Others quickly joined him and began beating me,” Nimrod recounted.
He said he fell to the ground during the assault and was later helped up by a friend. When his brother arrived, the attackers reportedly fled back into the hotel.
Nimrod and his brother then drove to Lodwar to report the incident. He was issued a P3 form and treated at Lodwar County Referral Hospital, where he was later discharged. He informed his parents about the incident afterward.
Represented by lawyer Richard Warigi, Nimrod submitted a medical report as evidence. However, the report noted no visible bloodstains on his clothes or body, which contradicted earlier claims of severe injuries.
In addition to the assault charges, the accused are also facing a second charge of conspiracy to defeat justice, contrary to Section 117(a) of the Penal Code.
The case has been adjourned to October 24, 2025, for further hearing.
