Turkana Politics: Fallout Between Governor Lomorukai and MP Namuar Exposed in Kalokol

A simmering political rift between Turkana Central MP Emathe Namuar and Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai was laid bare yesterday during a burial in Kalokol. Namuar, who appeared in a rush, left the venue just before the governor arrived — a move many observers interpreted as a deliberate snub.
The incident marked a visible turning point in a relationship once seen as mutually beneficial. In 2022, Namuar, then a UDA candidate, rode on Lomorukai’s goodwill and political machinery at a time when Lomorukai was contesting for the governorship on an ODM ticket. Their alliance symbolized cross-party cooperation in Turkana, giving Namuar the momentum he needed to clinch the parliamentary seat.
Today, that alliance seems fractured. Senior county officials — Education CEC Leah Audan Lokala and Chief Officer for Livestock Development and Fisheries Ekuwam Etelej — are reportedly eyeing Namuar’s seat in 2027. For the MP, this signals a direct political threat from within Lomorukai’s inner circle. Insiders suggest Namuar had expected the governor to shield him from internal challengers, but the governor’s silence is being read as tacit approval of his officers’ ambitions.
Political analysts note that this rift reflects broader dynamics in Turkana politics, where party lines often blur in favor of personal influence and clan-based mobilization. Lomorukai, by allowing his lieutenants to pursue parliamentary ambitions, may be positioning himself to consolidate influence in Turkana Central while weakening allies who might outgrow his political orbit.
Namuar, on the other hand, risks being politically isolated if the governor’s camp throws its weight behind alternative candidates. His future may depend on whether he can rebuild grassroots loyalty independent of Lomorukai’s network — or forge new alliances beyond county politics.
The Kalokol episode now raises a larger question: has the fallout between Lomorukai and Namuar reached a point of no return, and what does that mean for Turkana’s evolving political landscape?
