Turkana North MP, Hon. Ekwom Nabuin, has unleashed a scathing attack on Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, accusing him of fabricating human trafficking allegations as a smokescreen to divert attention from an ongoing graft probe into his administration.
In an explosive press statement, Nabuin dismissed the Governor’s claims that elected leaders were involved in smuggling aliens and bhang across Kenya’s borders, branding them as “politically motivated distractions” meant to dodge public scrutiny and investigative pressure.
The MP challenged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to compel Governor Lomorukai to reveal the names and details of the alleged trafficking network he referenced. He also raised concerns about the use of county vehicles in suspicious cross-border operations, especially during the Governor’s frequent visits to Lokichoggio.
“My first call is that DCI and EACC should swiftly squeeze the information Hon. Lomorukai is hiding about the alleged involvement of Politicians and DCI officers in the said trafficking. This is a matter of National Security and cannot be left to political theatrics. Investigations into all these allegations must begin immediately and Mr. Lomorukai made to account for every word he uttered.” he stated
The MP further accused Lomorukai of weaponizing government machinery to target non-compliant businesses, citing the recent crackdown on Liban Coach Bus services as an example of political harassment disguised as law enforcement.
“It is now evident that Mr. Lomorukai is clumsily attempting to divert attention from the well-known use of county government vehicles to ferry aliens, bhang, and even arms cache across our porous borders, particularly during his so-called visits to Lokichoggio. This is public knowledge within Turkana, and his recent friction with the DCI stems from ongoing investigations that are closing in on him. His tactic is simple: point fingers elsewhere to delay accountability.” he stated
He described the Governor’s behavior as “a classic case of panic mode”—relying on handouts, threats, and deflection to suppress dissent and distract the public from rising concerns about mismanagement and corruption.
“It is increasingly clear that Mr. Lomorukai is in panic mode, resorting to mudslinging against political opponents who are unafraid to speak truth to power.”
“substitute for meaningful development. We therefore ask investigative agencies to expedite their inquiries and bring all culprits to justice, especially those using public office as a cover for illegal operations.” Nabuin concluded.
On Monday, Governor Lomorukai singlehandedly played a key role in the interception of a Liban Coach bus, which is accused of engaging in human trafficking and transporting undocumented refugees from Kakuma to Nairobi.
“I called my County enforcement team, those who deal with the barriers and instructed them to stop that bus (Liban Coach bus) because I was following it from wherever it was coming from. And that’s how we got this bus.” he said.
“The search has been done by the DCIO and OCS, we have more than 40 people without traveling documents. Where they are going we do not know.”
“In fact, we are putting this country into a dangerous place because there’s radicalisation of the youth who want to get into some associations of Al Shabaab. Where are these people going without traveling documents?”
As pressure mounts, the spotlight is now firmly on Governor Lomorukai to respond while investigative agencies are being urged to dig deeper into the unfolding saga.
