‘Resign from ODM and form your own party’: Trans Nzoia elders to Senator Sifuna, MP Caleb Amisi

A section of elders from Trans Nzoia County have called on ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna and Saboti MP Caleb Amisi to resign from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and seek a fresh mandate.
The elders accused the two leaders of undermining the unity of the party and sowing division through their public opposition to the proposed broad-based government framework being championed by President Ruto and ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga.
In separate public statements, both Sifuna and Amisi have openly opposed any move by ODM to back President Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027. The duo has, on multiple occasions, threatened to quit the party should it formalize support for the Kenya Kwanza government.
“Let them resign from ODM and go back to the people. If they are against the direction the party is taking, they should be bold enough to seek a fresh mandate,” said one of the elders during a press briefing in Trans Nzoia.
The elders further urged ODM to remain firm in its values and avoid what they described as political compromise that could alienate its core supporters.
While the debate on a potential alliance between ODM and President Ruto continues to gain momentum, the sharp divisions within the party signal a looming internal battle that could reshape political alignments ahead of 2027.
Neither Sifuna nor Amisi has formally responded to the elders’ latest demands, but both have maintained their stance against ODM’s rapprochement with the ruling administration.
