“Tell Turkana People Where You Stand”: Nakuleu Turns the Heat on Munyes in Fiery Ruto Loyalty Clash

Share This:

Former Turkana County Speaker Christopher Nakuleu has unleashed a hard-hitting rebuttal against former Cabinet Secretary John Munyes, accusing him of political inconsistency, opportunism, and a long history of undermining the very leaders who elevate him.

In a bold declaration of loyalty, Nakuleu reaffirmed his unwavering support for President William Ruto, saying he has stood with the President since 2022 and will continue backing him until 2032. But his sharpest question was aimed squarely at Munyes:

“I stand with President Ruto to 2032 — but who does former CS Munyes stand with?” he questioned.

Nakuleu insists that the answer will become clear in the 2027 political showdown, maintaining that one thing is certain: ‘Munyes will not be with President Ruto.’

Track Record
Nakuleu accused Munyes of a long-standing pattern; attacking him and President Ruto at the start of every political season, only to later seek their support when fortunes turn.

For instance, Nakuleu traced the pattern across key political moments:

2013: Munyes allegedly mocked URP and even the Ford Kenya symbol, only to defect when the Jubilee government took power. Nakuleu said he personally escorted Munyes to meet Ruto at Harambee Annex in 2014.

2017–2022: After losing the gubernatorial race, Munyes was elevated to Cabinet with help from Jubilee MPs. But once in office, Nakuleu claims he turned against those who supported him.

2022: Nakuleu accused Munyes of fueling ethnic hostility by branding UDA a “Pokot party” and calling both Ruto and Nakuleu thieves during public rallies — accusations that allegedly contributed to President Ruto’s poor performance in Turkana South and East.

Despite these attacks, Nakuleu said Munyes returned again in 2023 seeking help, and yet again, Ruto’s team intervened.

New Line of Attack: Targeting UDM

Nakuleu also faulted Munyes for labelling United Democratic Movement (UDM) of Mandera Senator Ali Roba, a “Somali party,” a claim he dismisses as divisive and uninformed. He noted that key Kenya Kwanza figures such as UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar and UDM leader Ali Roba are of Somali origin, yet play central roles in the coalition.

He questioned the basis of Munyes’ discomfort:

“Why should Munyes be offended when Kenya Kwanza leaders strengthen their own parties?”

Nakuleu further challenged Munyes to explain when he supposedly became a Ruto supporter, given he has “never voted for the President.”

Predictable Political Script?

According to Nakuleu, Munyes’ political behaviour follows a familiar rhythm:

1. Insult those in power
2. Defect when the tide turns
3. Return for help when fortunes fade
4. Get empowered
5. Turn against the same people again.

Nakuleu further claimed tha Munyes might be gearing up to shift allegiance once more in 2027; this time toward leaders associated with former President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i. He frames Munyes’ moves as short-term survival tactics, not long-term loyalty.

“Munyes’ politics is like rainwater — it follows the nearest slope. Some patterns never change.” he stated.

Meanwhile, sources reveal that Loima MP Protus Akujah and former County Speaker Chris Nakuleu have reportedly been summoned by the UDA Party committee led by SG Omar Hassan, following their recent shift in allegiance to support UDM candidate John Meyan in the just concluded Lake Zone Ward by-election.

The duo led a spirited campaign where the UDM candidate, John Meyan, secured position two trouncing the ODM party candidate, Stephen Locholil alias Obiro, who emerged position three.

Loima MP and Turkana 2027 gubernatorial aspirant Hon. Protus Akujah is reportedly set to contest for the county’s top seat on a UDM Party ticket.

According to reports, the second-term legislator is expected to use the United Democratic Movement (UDM), founded by Sen. Ali Roba, as his political vehicle ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Despite not backing a UDA candidate for the MCA seat, both Nakuleu and Akujah reaffirmed their commitment to championing President William Ruto’s re-election bid, pledging to ensure he secures a second term in 2027.

Dr. Akujah also rallied support for the re-election of Christopher Nakuleu as the Turkana North MP in 2027.

On the other hand, Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, who led UDA to victory in both the Naanam and Lake Zone by-elections, revealed that the party will endorse Kaeris MCA Hon. Patrick Napion as its candidate for the Turkana North parliamentary seat.
