A new opinion survey by Swiss Poll International indicates a closely contested race for the Turkana County Woman Representative seat, with Hon. Susan Aletia emerging as the current front-runner with 35 per cent.

According to the survey, which sampled 1,063 respondents and carries a ±3.0 per cent margin of error at a 95 per cent confidence level, Hon. Aletia commands 35 per cent voter support if elections were held today.

She is followed closely by the incumbent Woman Rep Cecilia Asinyen Ng’itit-Ishuu, who garnered 31 per cent, narrowing the gap between the two leading contenders and signalling an increasingly competitive contest. Hon. Fridah Ewoton trails with 18 per cent support.

The poll also shows that 14 per cent of voters remain undecided, a significant swing bloc that could ultimately influence the final outcome of the race as campaigns intensify.

Analysts note that with the margin between the top two candidates falling within the poll’s error range, the contest remains wide open. Shifts in voter mobilisation, campaign messaging, and alliances could still reshape the race in the coming months.

Swiss Poll International conducted the survey as part of its political research and analytics work ahead of the next general election.

The survey underscore a rapidly evolving political landscape in Turkana County, where voter sentiment appears fluid and highly competitive ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

In the 2022 General Election, the Turkana Woman Representative race was highly competitive, with Hon. Cecilia Ngitit (Ishuu) emerging top after garnering 47,195 votes (33.20%), followed closely by Leah Lokala Audande with 43,628 votes (30.69%), and Susan Aletia who secured 43,415 votes (30.54%). At the time, Turkana County had 238,528 registered voters, with an estimated 60 per cent voter turnout.

However, the political landscape has since shifted. Leah Audande has officially dropped her bid for the Woman Representative seat and is now focusing her political ambitions on the Turkana Central parliamentary race, effectively reconfiguring the contest.

The entry of Hon. Fridah Ewoton into the race is also expected to significantly influence the 2027 contest, further tightening the competition and potentially tilting the balance between the two leading contenders, Susan Aletia and Cecilia Asinyen Ishuu.

With voter loyalties evolving and new dynamics at play, the Turkana Woman Representative race is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched contests in the county ahead of the next general election.

As campaigning gains momentum, all eyes will be on how candidates court undecided voters and consolidate their support bases in what is shaping up to be a closely fought race for the Turkana Woman Representative seat.
