A groundbreaking new HIV prevention injection—Lenacapavir—is set to be available in Kenya starting January 2026. The long-acting injectable, which offers protection for up to six months, will cost KSh 6,000 per shot.

Health experts have welcomed the development, calling it a game-changer in the fight against HIV, especially among vulnerable groups who struggle with daily pills. Lenacapavir is expected to boost adherence and reduce new infections significantly.

The Ministry of Health has promised to work with partners to ensure accessibility and affordability, especially for high-risk populations.

Kenya continues to lead in embracing innovative HIV prevention solutions in Africa.
