High Court to Rule on Turkana Advocate’s KSH 103M Lawsuit Against KPLC on March 7

The High Court has set March 7, 2025, as the date for its ruling on a lawsuit filed by Turkana-based advocate Shadrack Muyesu against the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC).
Muyesu is seeking KSH 103 million in damages, accusing KPLC of failing to notify or consult the local community before implementing power cuts.
During the hearing, KPLC, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), and the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) requested that the case be referred back to EPRA. However, Muyesu argued that a formal complaint he lodged with EPRA in November 2023 was ignored.
He urged the court to recognize the hardships caused by the unannounced outages and either reject the respondents’ request or set strict deadlines for KPLC and EPRA to restore normal services.
Justice T.J. Otieno will rule on whether the case proceeds in court or is referred back to the regulator.
