TURWASCO Takes Over: New Era for Water Services in Turkana

The staff of the defunct Lodwar Water and Sanitation Company (LOWASCO) have officially transitioned to Turkana Urban Water and Sanitation Company (TURWASCO), completing the restructuring of water service management in Turkana County.
TURWASCO, now responsible for setting quality standards and improving service delivery, took over LOWASCO’s assets, financial management, and operations in June 2024. To ensure a smooth transition, the company held a workshop to brief staff on legal and operational changes.
Acting Managing Director Benedict Ekeru emphasized the need for better revenue collection and efficiency, introducing a performance appraisal system. County Legal Director Ekai Nabenyo assured compliance with employment laws, while employees welcomed job security but raised concerns over unpaid gratuities.
Board Chairperson Philip Aemun Ebei assured staff that TURWASCO would audit and address outstanding financial obligations. He urged employees to embrace the change as a chance to rebrand the company and enhance service delivery.
