Governor Lomorukai Unveils Memorial Monument for Todonyang’ Massacre Victims

Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has arrived in Todonyang’, Turkana North, to pay tribute to the victims of the brutal February 22nd attack on Turkana fishermen, express solidarity with the affected families, and spearhead the county’s emergency recovery efforts.
During his visit, the Governor unveiled a memorial monument honoring the more than 40 Turkana fishermen who were killed by suspected Dassanach militia from Ethiopia. The heinous attack not only claimed innocent lives but also devastated the livelihoods of the fishing community in the border region, leaving families in mourning and economic uncertainty.
Joined by Fr. Wycliffe Ochieng’ of Todonyang’ Mission, Governor Lomorukai laid wreaths at the memorial site and at the burial ground where three of the recovered victims were laid to rest. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to seeking justice for the victims and enhancing security measures along the border to prevent future attacks.
The monument, a solemn tribute to the fallen, was initiated by Friends of Lake Turkana and the Turkana Professional Association (TPA) in remembrance of the tragic loss and as a symbol of resilience for the community.
