Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has demanded the immediate eviction of Pokot communities allegedly living illegally in the Turkana Game Reserve.
Speaking in Lodwar during Mashujaa Day celebrations, Lomorukai condemned the encroachment, saying it was unlawful and posed a threat to wildlife conservation and county security.
“We demand for an immediate eviction. The Turkana Game Reserve is a resource of the county government. How can criminals be allowed to settle in a protected zone?” the governor said.
Lomorukai further accused the settlers of harming wildlife while criticizing the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) for inaction.
“The settlers are killing our animals, and the KWS stationed in the area is not doing anything,” he added.
The governor called on security agencies to act swiftly, saying his administration would not tolerate illegal occupation of protected land. He also urged neighboring communities to respect boundaries and promote peaceful coexistence.
