Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has demanded that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua record a statement with security agencies upon his return to Kenya, following his recent remarks linking President William Ruto to alleged meetings with Al Shabaab leaders.
Speaking on Saturday, August 9, 2025, during an Economic Empowerment event in Elgeyo Marakwet attended by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and other Kenya Kwanza leaders, Murkomen sharply criticised Gachagua’s claims, terming them reckless, unfounded, and damaging to Kenya’s global image.
“You must carry yourself with utmost respect. I saw a man sitting where you are sitting the other day disparaging our country, talking about issues of insecurity as if it is a joke. He thinks he will parade issues of terrorism in America to get votes,” Murkomen said.
The CS insisted that Gachagua must produce evidence to support his allegations.
“We want to say without fear of contradiction that because he has said he has information, as soon as he lands in Kenya, he must record a statement and tell us which meetings he was having with terrorists,” Murkomen stated.
