In the scorching heat of Turkana, where survival is a daily battle, a young man refuses to let his dreams slip away. Ekidor Stephen Lowoton, a third-year student at the University of Nairobi, has faced unimaginable struggles in his pursuit of education. Born into hardship and orphaned at a young age, Ekidor’s journey has been one of resilience, sacrifice, and unwavering determination.

A Journey of Struggle and Sacrifice

Ekidor’s education was made possible by the KCB Foundation, which sponsored his secondary school education. When he secured admission to pursue a Bachelor of Economics and Statistics at the University of Nairobi, he reached out once more to the foundation. They generously cleared his first-year fees, but upon returning for his second year, he was told that their support only covered high school students.

Faced with no other option, Ekidor was forced to defer his studies. Instead of giving up, he traveled to Lake Turkana to work as a fisherman, hoping to raise enough money to continue his education. For months, he battled the harsh conditions of the lake, working tirelessly to finance his second year. Against all odds, he returned to school and resumed his studies.

But his battle was far from over. In his third year, Ekidor was once again unable to pay his fees and had no choice but to defer his studies once more.

A Life Without a Safety Net

Ekidor is a total orphan. He was raised by his grandmother, the only family he had left. She was his source of strength, but in 2022, she passed away, leaving him entirely on his own. Since then, life has been a relentless struggle.

Today, Ekidor works as a security warden at IDAR Security Services, earning just enough to survive while saving every coin for his education. His dream is simple: to complete his studies and build a better future for himself and his community in Turkana West, Lopur Ward.

A Plea for Help

Despite the obstacles, Ekidor refuses to give up. He is determined to finish his third and fourth year of university, but he cannot do it alone. He needs financial support to cover his tuition and continue his studies without interruption.
