The Kenya Meteorological Department has advised Nairobi residents to brace themselves for chilly mornings, cloudy conditions, and showers this weekend, after announcing that most parts of the country will experience rainfall, cold weather, and strong winds between August 22 and August 25, 2025.

In its forecast, the department noted that rainfall is expected across the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and parts of northwestern Kenya.

Counties such as Kisumu, Nakuru, Kakamega, Kericho, and Bungoma will receive afternoon showers and thunderstorms, with daytime temperatures ranging between 27°C and 29°C.

In northwestern regions including Turkana and Samburu, occasional showers and thunderstorms are expected, though sunny intervals will also be experienced. Daytime temperatures in these areas will range between 31°C and 33°C, while nighttime temperatures are expected to drop to between 9°C and 13°C.

Residents of the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, and Meru, have been urged to prepare for chilly mornings, cloudy conditions, and scattered showers. Daytime highs will range between 24°C and 26°C, while nighttime lows could fall between 7°C and 11°C.

The department further indicated that northeastern counties such as Mandera, Garissa, Wajir, Marsabit, and Isiolo will largely remain sunny, with isolated showers expected from Sunday. These areas will also experience very hot conditions, with daytime highs reaching up to 37°C and nighttime lows dropping to between 14°C and 16°C.

In the southeastern lowlands—Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta—mornings will be cloudy before giving way to sunshine, with light showers expected on Sunday. Daytime temperatures will range between 28°C and 30°C.

Coastal counties including Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, and Lamu will receive morning and evening showers, with sunny intervals during the day. Temperatures will remain moderate, ranging between 29°C and 30°C during the day and 21°C to 22°C at night.

The department also issued a warning of strong winds expected in coastal areas, the southeastern lowlands, northeastern, and northwestern Kenya. Winds blowing from the south to southeast at speeds exceeding 25 knots are forecast in these regions.

Residents have been urged to stay updated with advisories from county meteorological offices and take necessary precautions, particularly those living in flood-prone areas.
