Clinical officers in Turkana County have threatened to down their tools starting Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at midnight after issuing a seven-day strike notice to the Turkana County Government.
The notice, issued by the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO), cites unresolved grievances that the union says have affected its members for an extended period.
Among the key concerns raised are the failure to sign the already negotiated Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), delays in promotions and redesignation of clinical officers, and the non-implementation of the approved Career Guidelines for Clinical Officers issued in May 2024.
The union has also accused the county of failing to pay SRC arrears for the 2024/2025 financial year, not recruiting additional clinical officers including general and sub-specialists, failing to remit statutory and third-party deductions, and consistently delaying salary payments.
KUCO stated that unless the county government addresses the listed issues within the notice period, all clinical officers across Turkana will withdraw their services without further notice.
The strike, the union says, will continue until a binding agreement is signed, executed, and fully implemented.
The union has, however, expressed willingness to engage in constructive dialogue with county officials during the seven-day window in a bid to avert disruption of health services.
If the industrial action proceeds as planned, public health facilities across Turkana County could face significant service interruptions, given the central role clinical officers play in frontline healthcare delivery.
