Turkana Among First Counties Set to Receive Emergency Food Assistance Under Government Drought Plan

The national government has announced fresh emergency measures to cushion communities facing severe drought, pledging that no Kenyan will be left to endure hunger as conditions worsen across the north.

In a statement, the government acknowledged that the prolonged dry spell has placed heavy strain on households in several counties. Beginning next week, a coordinated food distribution programme will be rolled out to support the most affected regions.

Residents of Mandera, Turkana, Marsabit, Wajir and Garissa will be among the first to receive food assistance under the initiative. Authorities say the operation will involve enhanced logistics and close collaboration with county governments to ensure rapid and efficient delivery.

According to the government, the measures form part of a wider strategy to safeguard vulnerable families and strengthen food security as drought continues to tighten its grip on large parts of the country.
