Renowned philanthropist and TikTok star Cecilia Lawrence, popularly known as Shangazi Wa Taifa, was arraigned today at the Kakuma Magistrate’s Court following her arrest on Friday evening over an alleged assault incident involving her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend.
According to reports, the drama began after Cynthia, the ex-girlfriend of Shangazi’s current boyfriend Baraka (Congolese national), visited him in Kakuma. Baraka had earlier pranked Cynthia, pretending to be sick and admitted to hospital. Concerned, Cynthia rushed to see him, but upon arrival, Baraka told her he was “already home.”
Cynthia then went to his residence, where shortly after, Shangazi and her friend stormed in, allegedly tipped off by neighbours. A confrontation ensued, during which Cynthia was allegedly assaulted and sustained bruises.
It’s further alleged that Shangazi filmed the altercation, and the video later allegedly surfaced on Kenya Gossips, sparking a wave of public reactions online.
Following a police report filed by Cynthia, both Shangazi and Baraka were arrested and detained over the weekend before being arraigned in court today (Monday).
Attempts by local leaders and her followers to secure her release earlier were unsuccessful, as police insisted the matter proceed to court.
The incident has since caused a stir across social media, with mixed reactions from fans and residents in Kakuma.
