Skirmishes Over Mining Site Leave Several Injured in Pokot-Turkana Clash”

A cross-border conflict between the Pokot and Turkana communities erupted yesterday morning at around 10:00 a.m. The confrontation occurred at Lami Nyeusi, reportedly over disputes involving mining camp sites. Members of the Turkana community from Kainuk and the Pokot community allegedly clashed, using stones during the skirmish.
Six individuals from the Turkana side were reported injured, with one person seriously wounded and subsequently taken to Kapenguria for further medical treatment. There are also unconfirmed reports indicating that eight Pokot individuals sustained injuries during the clashes.
Additionally, one motorbike belonging to a Turkana resident of Kainuk – registration number KMFG 125E was allegedly taken by members of the Pokot side.
In response to the incident, local Turkana leaders from both the county and national governments convened today in Kainuk to seek a lasting solution to the ongoing conflict.
