OPINION: Raila, Your Dancing Won’t Help Ruto Fix the Economy

Raila Odinga built his name as Kenya’s loudest opposition voice— a man who stood against corruption, misrule, and economic injustice. Today, that voice has gone quiet. By aligning himself with President William Ruto’s administration, Raila has abandoned the very role that made him a symbol of resistance.

Kenyans are struggling. The cost of food is unbearable, fuel prices remain high, taxes suffocate small businesses, and debt is swallowing the nation’s future. Yet instead of rallying citizens against these harsh realities, Raila has chosen partnership over protest.

This alliance may serve political convenience, but it is a betrayal to millions who depended on him to hold power accountable. Silence in the face of bad governance is not statesmanship—it is complicity.

For decades, Raila promised Kenyans that he would fight for them, even at personal cost. Now, he risks erasing that legacy by standing beside the very government deepening the people’s suffering.

History will not remember the steps of his dance, but the steps he failed to take for the people. Dancing with power may be entertaining, but it won’t pay Kenyans’ bills—nor will it fix Ruto’s broken economy.

And when the music stops, Kenyans will still be hungry.
