Lodwar, Turkana County – The Islamic Foundation for Integrated Programs (IFIP) is set to partner with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), Turkana County Chapter, in a transformative collaboration aimed at empowering Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and enhancing the delivery of goods and services across the region.

The partnership will focus on connecting local SMEs with organisations and individuals in need, helping to streamline operations and build a sustainable local economy. By addressing the challenges faced by SMEs, the initiative aims to foster economic growth, self-reliance, and long-term development in Turkana County.

“This partnership underscores the importance of empowering local businesses to meet the needs of their communities,” said Rogers Hamza Samanya, Chairman of IFIP. “Our collaboration with KNCCI will strengthen SME capacity and create opportunities that promote economic independence and resilience in Turkana.”

The partnership will centre around key areas, including:

Capacity Building for SMEs: Both organisations will collaborate on training initiatives, equipping SMEs with essential skills in business management, supply chain logistics, and financial operations.

Connecting SMEs with Opportunities: KNCCI will identify local SMEs capable of delivering goods and services, while IFIP will leverage its extensive community networks to link these businesses with clients, including refugees, host communities, and development partners.

Promoting Local Procurement: The initiative will prioritise sourcing goods and services from local SMEs, reducing dependence on external suppliers and boosting the local economy.

Formalising the Partnership: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be established to facilitate regular collaboration, joint initiatives, and the monitoring of progress.

The partnership also aims to reduce unemployment and support local entrepreneurs by providing access to training, mentorship, and market opportunities.

“By empowering SMEs, we can ensure that Turkana businesses play a central role in delivering services and goods to those in need,” said a representative from KNCCI Turkana County. “This collaboration will not only support businesses but also uplift the community as a whole.”

Moving forward, IFIP and KNCCI will host joint workshops and review sessions to assess the impact of their initiatives and explore additional ways to support SMEs in Turkana County.

This partnership marks a significant step towards fostering economic resilience, strengthening local enterprises, and improving access to essential goods and services for the people of Turkana County.
