Tension is high in Kainuk, Turkana South, after two people were killed in a suspected bandit attack on Tuesday night. Among the dead is a National Police Reservist (NPR), whose firearm was stolen by the attackers believed to have come from Masol area in West Pokot County.

The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who accuse security agencies of failing to curb the wave of attacks that continue to claim lives and displace families along the Turkana–West Pokot border.

Residents now say they are ready to stage mass protests, demanding immediate government action to restore security and recover the stolen firearm. They insist that banditry in the region has become a menace, crippling business, threatening livelihoods, and leaving communities in constant fear.

Local leaders are calling for a joint security operation to pursue the attackers and dismantle the armed groups terrorizing the area, warning that continued inaction risks plunging the region into deeper instability.
