LODWAR: Renowned senior lecturer and researcher in the field of early childhood education, Prof. John Ngasike, has called on the Turkana County government to employ Teacher Elizabeth Kamaret.
“Turkana County government should employ Teacher Kamaret! She is a patriot!” he posted on his social media platform.
Kamaret, a dedicated volunteer teacher in Kapoo village, Turkana South, gained public attention after comedian-turned-activist Eric Omondi visited the area and constructed a classroom for the children.
In a gesture of gratitude, Omondi renamed the school after Kamaret, celebrating her unwavering commitment to teaching under challenging conditions. This move has been hailed as a symbol of hope and recognition for her dedication to education in Turkana.
On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Turkana County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Sports, and Social Protection, Hon. Wiljustus Lopeyok, officiated the site handover ceremony at Kapoo, Kasuroi Village. The event marked the beginning of the construction of a new classroom and pit latrines at the Kapoo Early Childhood Development (ECD) Center.
The ceremony also saw the deployment of a new ECD teacher, Mr. Gabriel Lokarach (in yellow), who will now lead the learning process at the school.
The project, funded under the county’s FY 2024/2025 budget, aims to improve learning conditions for ECD pupils in the region. Hon. Lopeyok also distributed ECD meals, feeding plates, cups, and instructional materials to support early learners.
The event was attended by the ECD Director, Sub-County Education Officer, Sub-County Administrator, and representatives from both the County and National Government. The project is expected to make a significant impact on early childhood education in the area.
