3 Months, No Salaries. Leadership or Failure?

Last Updated on September 16, 2025 by Turkana County News Online
Turkana County Government workers have now gone for three consecutive months without receiving their salaries, raising serious concerns among employees and residents alike.
The delays have left many county staff struggling to meet basic needs, with some citing difficulties in paying rent, school fees, and daily expenses. Workers in other counties as well as those under the national government continue to receive their monthly salaries on time, intensifying frustrations among Turkana staff.
Civil servants in the county have described the situation as unacceptable, urging the county leadership to explain the cause of the persistent delays and to provide a clear timeline for payment.
The matter has also sparked public debate, with critics warning that continued delays risk crippling essential services and lowering morale among government employees. Others argue that the situation is gradually reducing the image of the county government to that of a “laughing stock” compared to other regions.
Despite growing pressure, county officials are yet to issue a comprehensive statement on when workers should expect their dues.
