Turkana Deserves Better: End the Exploitation by Platinum Credit

What is happening to our workforce in Turkana—especially those in the Human Resource sector—is nothing short of economic exploitation. At the heart of this crisis is Platinum Credit Ltd.

This so-called financial institution has caused more harm than help. Instead of empowering people through credit access, Platinum has entrapped hardworking employees in endless cycles of debt. Salaries vanish before they reach families, swallowed by outrageous loan deductions.

But this is more than a financial issue. It’s a mental health emergency. Stress-related illnesses like high blood pressure, diabetes, and strokes—once rare in our region—are now alarmingly common. Families are being torn apart, dignity is being stripped away, and people are being pushed to the edge by desperation.

Platinum Credit is not a development partner. It is a predator. Its lending model is deceptive, its interest rates are punitive, and its operations are rooted in exploitation. It thrives by feeding on the vulnerability of our people.

We are calling on county leaders, HR departments, unions, and all relevant authorities: Enough is enough. Platinum Credit must be stopped and expelled from Turkana.

Let us stand up for our people. Let us restore dignity, peace of mind, and fairness in our workplaces. If we don’t act now, the damage may be permanent.
