Turkana County Assembly Staff Set to Protest Over Unpaid Salaries

Staff at the Turkana County Assembly are set to stage a major protest next week after enduring an unbearable four-month salary delay. More than 400 employees have vowed to down their tools in a bold demand for immediate action, sending a strong message that their patience has officially worn thin.
Despite a recent shake-up in the Assembly’s leadership, the financial stalemate remains unresolved. Many workers had placed their hopes on the leadership change, expecting it to usher in reforms and end the persistent delays. Instead, their situation has worsened, leaving them feeling abandoned and betrayed.
Speaking to Turkana County News Online, several staff members voiced their frustration, saying their repeated pleas for salaries have fallen on deaf ears. “We are in Shakahola. Assembly staff are being asked to fast, while Pastor Makenzi (the Speaker) is feasting,” one employee remarked bitterly, likening their ordeal to a form of forced suffering.
What has further fueled their outrage is the revelation that employees in the County Executive were paid this week, a development they describe as a clear case of bias, discrimination, and institutional neglect.
As tensions escalate, the staff say they will not relent until their rightful dues are paid. The looming protest now threatens to paralyze operations within the County Assembly unless swift intervention is made.
