Stakeholder Engagement Begins for Mega Agriculture Plantation Project in Aroo

Stakeholder consultations have officially begun in Aroo Sub-County for the proposed Mega Agriculture Plantation Project along the Turkwel River downstream. The project, spearheaded by the Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA), seeks to utilize water from the Turkwel Dam to establish large-scale agricultural production along the river belt.
The flagship initiative, championed by H.E. President William Ruto and Turkana Governor H.E. Jeremiah Lomorukai, aims to boost food security, restore livelihoods, and promote sustainable economic development. The project is also expected to address long-standing insecurity along the river corridor by encouraging productive land use and economic empowerment.
The Cabinet Secretary for Energy, Hon. Opiyo Wandayi, together with CS Beatrice Askul and the Governors of Turkana and West Pokot counties, today launched formal stakeholder engagements in Turkwel. Consultations will continue in Kainuk, Kaputir, and Katilu.
The engagements are designed to promote community ownership, ensure a smooth rollout, and build broad-based support for the project.
Earlier, a pre-stakeholder engagement was conducted by national and county government administrators in Aroo Sub-County, led by Sub-County Administrator Mr. Alfred Lomodei, Deputy Director of Agriculture Mr. Victor Lochee, and Governor’s Advisor Mr. Peter Lolem, among other local leaders. The groundwork helped prepare the community for meaningful participation in the project.
