Outspoken Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has launched a scathing attack on National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, accusing him of compromising the integrity of his office by closely aligning with President William Ruto’s political agenda.
Speaking during a charged political rally in Kakamega, Khalwale criticized Wetang’ula for prioritizing succession politics over national development, claiming that the Speaker’s role is being diluted by partisan involvement in local empowerment events.
“You are the first Speaker in Kenya’s history who gets carried around by the President’s aide to attend empowerment events. That is not the work of a Speaker. A Speaker is supposed to be authoritative,” Khalwale stated.
The senator, who has declared interest in the Kakamega governorship in 2027, further accused Wetang’ula of supporting the re-election of Governor Fernandes Barasa as part of a wider plot by external forces to influence local politics.
Khalwale also claimed that Wetang’ula had abandoned his own backyard in Bungoma, where he is reportedly losing political ground to Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.
