Kenya and Ethiopia held a joint security meeting after suspected Ethiopian Dassanech militia attacked Turkana fishermen at Todonyang border point, Turkana County, leaving an unconfirmed number of people dead and several others missing.

The heavily armed assailants ambushed the fishermen on Lake Turkana near River Omo on Saturday evening, spraying them with bullets. Authorities are yet to confirm the exact number of casualties, though some reports suggest over a dozen deaths. Additionally, more than 40 people have been reported missing following the brutal raid.

Kenyan officials, including Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen and PS Raymond Omollo, acknowledged the attack, with Omollo stating it occurred on Ethiopia’s side of the border. Security agencies are investigating the incident.

As efforts to restore calm continue, families of the missing remain in anguish, hoping to reunite with their loved ones. May they find peace and answers soon.
